SRINAGAR, Nov 17: A delegation from J&K SnowShoe Association, led by President Tariq Ghani met J&K Sports Minister Satish Sharma at the Civil Secretariat, Srinagar today, to discuss the growth of SnowShoe running and request its reinclusion in the Khelo India Winter Games.
The delegation, including Vice President Arif Ahmad, General Secretary Dr. Altaf-ur-Rehman, and international athletes Gulzar Khan and Muzamil Hussain, highlighted J&K’s dominance in national and international SnowShoe events and the sport’s potential to boost winter tourism cost-effectively across snow-bound areas. Ghani also shared plans for the 10th National SnowShoe Championship in Gulmarg and a Guinness World Record SnowShoe Run.
Minister Sharma lauded the athletes’ achievements and assured full support for upcoming events, including international competitions. He confirmed that SnowShoe will be reinstated in Khelo India Winter Games, reinforcing J&K’s vision to become India’s premier winter sports hub. The delegation presented a memento to the Minister, appreciating his continued encouragement for winter sports.
