REASI, Oct 9: Chief Executive Officer of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB), Sachin Kumar Vaishya, today felicitated ace para archer Rakesh Kumar for securing a Silver Medal in the Men’s Compound Open category at the 2025 Para Archery World Championship held in Gwangju, South Korea.
The prestigious event marked yet another milestone in Rakesh’s decorated archery career, further solidifying his reputation as a world-class athlete. A recipient of the Arjuna Award 2024, Rakesh continues to bring laurels to the nation and the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
Pawan Kumar, the first differently-abled archer from J&K to participate in the Para Archery World Championship, was also honoured for his commendable performance. A native of Dansal village in Katra, Pawan trained at the Shrine Board’s Sports Complex and was supported with Rs 7 lakh in financial aid for his international participation. Archery coach Abhilasha Chaudhary, who accompanied the Indian team to South Korea, was felicitated for her dedicated service.
The CEO presented mementos and the Chunri of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Ji to the achievers and lauded their grit and determination. He reiterated the Shrine Board’s commitment to promoting sports excellence, adding that the Sports Complex is being developed into a Centre of Excellence for aspiring athletes.
