KARGIL, Mar 26: The District Tobacco Control Cell, in collaboration with the Ladakh Ski & Snowboard Association (LSSA) and the Ski Mountaineering Association Ladakh (SMAL), organized a Tobacco-Free Ski Championship at Linkipal Ski Slope, Kargil.
The program was attended by notable officials, including Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Shrikant Balasaheb Suse, Joint Director Information Ladakh, Imteeaz Kacho, Assistant Director Tourism, Rahmatullah Bhatt and Chief Medical Officer Kargil, Dr. Liyaqat Ali Khan.
Deputy Commissioner Suse praised the event, stressing the importance of youth engagement in sports as a means to prevent drug use and other harmful habits. CMO Dr. Khan highlighted the role of sports in promoting physical fitness and combating substance abuse, particularly tobacco.
The event featured a snow skiing competition with participants displaying their skills while promoting anti-drug messages. Zeenat Mansoor Lal, Nazira, and Nidda secured the top three positions in the girls’ category, while Imtiyaz Ali, Abdul Hameed and Ahmad Umba excelled in the boys’ category.
