LEH, June 28: The annual Silk Route Festival was inaugurated today at Sumoor, Nubra by Rigzen Lundup, Councillor of the Tegar constituency. The event was attended by Tashi Chostak, Naib Tehsildar of Sumoor and Rigzen Tsephail, Nambardar of Sumoor, along with other prominent guests.
Organized by Samtan Otsal Tsogpa, Sumoor, the festival aims to celebrate the cultural and historical significance of the ancient Silk Route. The opening day featured a lively cultural program with performances by local artists showcasing the region’s rich heritage.
A major attraction was the traditional archery competition, which saw participation from 22 teams. Competitors displayed remarkable skill in both traditional and modern formats, drawing applause from the audience. The two-day festival will conclude on June 29 with a grand closing ceremony, including cultural performances, traditional songs and dances, a band performance, and other festive highlights.
