KATHUA, Nov 29: The four-day long cricket tournament ‘Bani Premier League’ organized by Bharat Sports Club with the support of NHPC concluded here today.
The grand finale witnessed clash between Golden Gladiators and Royal Challengers Duggan.
Winning the toss, Golden Gladiators opted to bat first and posted a target of 81 runs in 12 overs, losing 9 wickets. Musharraf hit crucial 22 runs, anchoring the team’s total.
Chasing the target, Royal Challengers Duggan team dominated the game and sealed the victory in just 9 overs at a loss of 6 wickets. Akhil delivered a spectacular performance scoring 46 runs off just 20 balls which earned him the title of ‘Player of the Tournament’. The top-performing teams and players were felicitated with awards.
The winning team received Rs. 24,000 in cash along with the championship trophy, while the runner-up, Golden Gladiators, was awarded Rs. 17,000 in cash and a trophy.
Individual awards in various categories included Best Batsman, Best Bowler, Best Captain and others were also presented.
Speaking on the occasion, Hafiz Qureshi, president Bharat Sports Club highlighted that primary objective of the tournament was to promote sportsmanship among youth and encourage them to stay away from drugs.
Qureshi also announced ambitious plans for next year, stating that the tournament will be organized on a much larger scale, featuring 32 teams – 16 from local Bani region and 16 from outside areas from across J&K.
A total of 12 local teams participated in this year’s tournament.
