SRINAGAR, Aug 23: The Rowing Federation of India (RFI) held its Executive Council Meeting alongside the Khelo India Water Sports Festival at Dal Lake, Srinagar, here today. Chaired by RFI President Balaji Maradapa, the meeting praised the Central sports authorities and Jammu & Kashmir for hosting the festival’s inaugural edition.
Dr. Burhan Bazaz, President of the Jammu & Kashmir Association of Rowing and Sculling (JKARS), attended as special guest and announced JKARS’s bid to host the Junior National Rowing Championship in J&K. The bid was positively received and preparations were authorized pending formal approval.
Dr. Bazaz also commended Bilquis Mir and Thomas, Competition Directors for Kayaking & Canoeing and Rowing, for their professional efforts, which enhanced the festival’s quality and raised hopes for India’s performance at the 2028 Olympics.
RFI President Maradapa emphasized the need for infrastructure and coaching to help India become a global force in water sports. The meeting was hailed as a milestone for water sports development and youth engagement in India.
