JAMMU, Dec 8: Parvez Rasool’s brilliant innings of 76 runs off 77 balls, after J&K’s top and middle-order collapse, went in vain as formidable Gujarat, even without the services of their batting mainstay, Priyank Panchal (who is presently on South Africa Tour) defeated Jammu and Kashmir by 5 wickets in Vijay Hazare Trophy at Cricket Club of India (CCI), Mumbai, today.
Earlier, put into bat, Jammu and Kashmir batsmen struggled to negotiate the disciplined bowling of Gujarat and the team lost 7 wickets for just 87 runs in 24.1 overs-Shubham Khajuria (9), Vivrant Sharma (21), Ian Chauhan (5), skipper Shubham Singh Pundir (0), Henan Nazir (12), Abdul Samad (5), Abid Mushtaq (13) were back to the pavillion. However, Parvez Rasool and Auqib Nabi (27), who came in at number-9, added 69 runs between them and took the score to 156 runs in 37.2 overs before, before the dismissal of Nabi. Parvez, in particular, was in sublime form and hit some crispy boundaries and massive sixes in his 77 ball knock. J&K, finally managed to score 171 runs in 42.1 overs, losing all their wickets. For Gujarat, CT Gaja captured 4 wickets, Hemang Patel bagged 3, while RB Jakaria, SA Desai and Piyush Chawla shared 1 wicket apiece.
In reply, Gujarat chased the target easily in 36.5 overs, losing 5 wickets in the process, thus won the match by 5 wickets. BH Merai top scored with unbeaten 57, while Ripal Patel and Het contributed 33 and 22 runs to the total respectively. Speedster Umar Nazir was the pick of the bowlers for J&K, who bagged 2 wickets by conceding 33 runs in his 8 overs, while Auqib Nabi and Mujtaba Yousuf claimed 1 wicket each. Parvez Rasool, though remained wicketless, but was economical in his 8 overs, conceding 33 runs.
J&K will take on Himachal Pradesh in their next outing at Dodoji Konddev Stadium, Thane tomorrow.
