JAMMU, June 23: Ranjeet Singh Hockey Club and Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Hockey Club, Poonch routed opponents and qualified for the quarterfinal stage of the ongoing Ist Mahant Bachiter Singh Gold Cup Hockey Tournament, being organized by Mahant Bachittar Singh Hockey Club, Makhanpur Simbal under the aegis of Hockey J&K at Government High School, Simbal Camp here today.
The first match of the day was played between Maharaja Ranjeet Singh Hockey Club and New National Higher Secondary School, in which former registered win by straight five goals to zero.
In the first half, Harpreet Singh of Maharaja Ranjeet Singh Hockey Club scored the first goal of the match in the 6th minute.
As the opponent New National Higher Secondary School players were trying to equalize the scoreboard, Gaganpreet Singh and Gurkirat Singh smashed two consecutive goals in the 14th minute and brought the opponent team under extreme pressure by 3-0 goals.
After 14th minute goals, the players of New National Higher Secondary School raided the goal side of opponent team several times but could not convert even a single attempt into goal and the first half ended with 3-0 goals lead over them.
In the second half, enthusiastic Gangandeep Singh of Maharaja Ranjeet Singh Hockey Club bounced back and netted the goal in the 50th minute. The goal by passionate Gurkirat Singh in 55th minute shattered the dreams of New National Higher Secondary School of winning the game.
After the fifth goal of the match, the players of New National Higher Secondary School were seen dominated before Maharaja Ranjit Singh Hockey Club players as they could not score even a single goal throughout the match, which led to the victory of latter.
Gurkirat Singh of Maharaja Ranjeet Singh Club was declared as man of the match and was awarded with cash prize of Rs 1000 and trophy by Gurmeet Kaur, Naib Sarpanch, who was guest of honour during the match.
In the second match of the day, Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Hockey Club registered 6-2 goals win over Young Star Hockey Club and sailed into quarterfinal round of the tournament.
The first goal of the match was netted by Gurdev Singh of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Hockey Club in the 4th minute of the first half, followed by second goal in the 6th minute by his teammate Ramanjot Singh.
In 16th minute, Rajan Kumar of Young Star Hockey Club netted the goal, which brought some respite from the rising pressure on his teammates.
Matinderpal Singh of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Hockey Club scored the third goal for his side in 21st minute and raised the scorecard to 3-1 goals.
Finding a loop hole, Vikram Kanwar of Young Star Hockey Club smashed the goal in the 22nd minute and brought down the difference between the goals to 3-2.
Rakshit Sharma of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Hockey Club netted the goal in the 26th minute and raised the scoreboard to 4-2 goals.
In the last 4 minutes of the first half, the players of Young Star hockey Club tried their level best to equalize the game, but failed and the first half ended with 4-2 goals.
In the second half, Abhimanyu and Ramanjot Singh, both from Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Hockey Club scored the goal in the 45th and 50th minutes and brought the opponent team under pressure of 6-2 goals.
In the last 10 minutes of the game, players of Young Star Hockey Club made various attempts to score goals, but all went in vain and the match was pocketed by Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Hockey Club.
Though the match was won by Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Hockey Club, but the skills exhibited by players of Young Star Hockey Club were also commendable and received high applauds from the spectators.
Manpreet Singh of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Hockey Club was declared as man of the match for his superb performance during the match. He was presented with Rs 500 cash award and a memento by Gajan Singh, Transporter, who was guest of honour on the occasion.
The matches were officiated by Daljeet Singh Bhatia, Joginder Singh, Jagjeet Singh, Shivam Sharma and Navjyoti Singh.
Among others present were GS Bakshi, Tournament Director, Jaspreet Singh, organizing secretary, Rajinder Singh sarpanch and Kunwarpreet Singh.
