Rakesh, Muneer share 1st place in Poetry Recitation Competition

JAMMU, Oct 8: An Urdu poem “Iss Ki Jo Sadaa Hai”, recited by Rakesh Kumar from the Department of Urdu and a Gojri poem “Hoon Mangtoo Swaali”, recited by Muneer Hussain from Government MAM College, Jammu, shared the first prize, while Swati Vijay from the Department of English, University of Jammu was adjudged second and Poonam Khajuria from GGM Science College, Jammu, bagged the third spot in the Poetry Recitation Competition conducted by the Department of Students Welfare, under the “Display Your Talent” 2013-14, here.
The Certificates of Merit were awarded to Mehak Gupta from Government College of Engineering and Technology, Jammu, Monika Mitter from Model Institute of Engineering and Technology, Jammu, Divya Bhogal from Department of Zoology, University of Jammu and Avinash Kahnotra from GGM Science College, Jammu.
Brig Rajinder Singh Auditorium, echoed with the thunderous applause by the audience on every good piece of poetry and rendition.
The young poets, in their presentations, vociferously raised the issues, related to the Women Empowerment, Female Foeticide. Dowry, Patriotism, Communal Harmony, Broth-erhood, Terrorism, Unem-ployment and Environmental Degradation etc.
The participants recited the poetry of the established poets as well as their self composed poems in Dogri, Hindi, Urdu, Gojri and English.
Noted Poet, Dr Jitendra Udhampuri, Prof Zahoor-ud-Din and Prof Lalit Magotra were the adjudicators of the event.
Prof Satnam Kour, Head, Department of English, was the chief guest on the occasion and distributed the prizes among the winners.
Dr Anju Thappa, was the teacher incharge of this event who apprised the participants about the rules and regulations.
The programme was compeered by Shally Aggarwal, Department of Political Science, member Students Cultural Council.
Among others Prof NK Tripathi, Dean Students Welfare, Prof Neeru Sharma, Chairperson, Campus Cultural Committee, Prof Yash Pal Sharma, Co-Chairman, Campus Cultural Committee, Dr Vishva Raksha, Coordinator, NSS, Dr Lalit Sen, Dr Sanjay Sharma, Dr Samridhi Arora and the Teacher in-Charges from various Colleges and Students, were also present on this occasion.
