Punjab Wrestler lifts 44th Salora Kesari Dangal title

KATRA, Apr 17: Wrestler Sherra from Baba Fly Akhara, Punjab emerged victorious in the 44th Annual Salora Kesari Dangal 2025, defeating Ishaq Ahmed (Lallu) of J&K Police, a resident of Jammu, in the much-anticipated main bout. The grand wrestling event was held at Salora and witnessed participation from renowned wrestlers across the country.
Sherra, after a gripping contest, was declared the winner of the first malli main bout and was awarded a cash prize of Rs 60,000 along with the traditional Gurj (Gadda) and Patta, while runner-up Ishaq Ahmed received Rs 40,000.
The event featured 66 high-octane bouts. Wrestler Parveen of Delhi defeated Benia Min of J&K Police and won a cash prize of Rs 60,000, while Benia received Rs 40,000. Another fiercely contested bout between Abhinayak of Uttar Pradesh and Shanbeen of Kohali (Punjab) ended in a draw, with both wrestlers being jointly awarded Rs. 1 lakh.
The one-day traditional Kannta Kushti Dangal saw an estimated expenditure of Rs. 7.35 lakh by the organizers. Swarn Singh, a noted wrestling promoter, was the chief guest and extended financial assistance of Rs. 1 lakh. The event was presided over by Shiv Kumar Sharma, President of the J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association. Generous contributions of Rs. 1 lakh each were also made by Tara Chand (Contractor) and Devyani Rana.
Prominent personalities present as guests of honour include Nand Kishore Sharma (BJP Jammu District President), Rohit Dubey (BJP Reasi President), Karnail Singh (Ex-Sarpanch), Rajan Singh (Happy) and Vinod Kundal (DySP Nagrota).
The event was smoothly conducted under the supervision of the Salora Dangal Committee, led by Rajinder Kumar Ramotra. The proceedings were ably conducted by Kulbir Kohinoor (Chandigarh) and Farooq Ali, while the bouts were officiated by Naresh Kumar (Pappu Lakri), Krishan Singh (NIS Coach, J&K Police), and Prabhat Singh.
