Poonch XI clinches Police Martyrs T-20 Cricket Tournament title

POONCH, May 26: Poonch XI registered victory over Glamorous Cricket Club (GCC) Poonch by 39 runs and clinched the title trophy of the Police Martyrs T-20 Cricket Tournament, organized by J&K Police under Civic Action Programme at Government Degree College ground here.
Electing to bat first after winning the toss, Poonch-XI scored 153 runs in 20 overs and in reply GCC failed to chase the target and bundled out at 115 runs for all out in 18.3 overs.
On the valedictory function, MH Malik, DDC Poonch was the chief guest, who presented cash rewards of Rs 50,000 and Rs 30,000 to the winner and runner-up teams in presence of AS Pendharkar, Commander 93 Infantry Brigade, who was the guest of honour.
Wasim Raja of Poonch-XI was declared as best player, while Prithpal Singh of YCC was declared as best batsman. Deepak of GCC Poonch was declared as best bowler and Inspector Jatinder Raina, SHO Police Station Poonch was declared as best fielder. Track suits and trophies were distributed among the winner and runner up teams, officials and umpires. Nazir Charak, Harcharan Singh, Prem Parkash Luthra and Ashfaq Mir veteran cricketer was also facilitated on the occasion.
SSP Poonch Jatinder Singh Johar while speaking on the occasion said that youth are the backbone of the nation and they are real ambassadors of peace, communal harmony and national integration. On the occasions SSP paid rich tribute to the martyrs of Police and other security forces who had laid down their precious lives for the cause of the nation.
Commander 93 Brigade, Brigadier AS Pendharkar asked the youth to take part in sports activities to keep their body mentally and physically fit.
DDC Poonch MH Malik also paid rich tribute to the martyrs of all forces and highlighted their role in restoring peace in the State. He also exhorted upon the youth to work hard and contribute positively in the overall development of the district. He also said that there is a talent in the youth of the district and endeavour of district administration is to channelize their energy by providing platform to the talented youth.
The tournament was conducted by the officials of District Youth and Sports Department Poonch who officiated as umpires, referees and expert of the game including Rajinder Singh Toofan, Vijay Kumar, Gurmeet Singh, Narinder Kumar, Davinder Dabur, Romesh Kumar and Gurvinder Singh.
