JAMMU, Aug 20: In a historic sporting achievement, District Poonch emerged as the overall champion of the J&K Taekwondo Championship, held here. Poonch players showcased exceptional skill and determination, clinching 26 Gold and 3 Silver medals, thereby securing the top position among all participating districts.
The mega championship was organized by the Taekwondo Association of Jammu & Kashmir (TAJK), which is affiliated with India Taekwondo, recognized by the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, World Taekwondo and the Indian Olympic Association.
The event witnessed the participation of 380 players from 14 districts of J&K, reflecting the growing enthusiasm and talent for Taekwondo across the region.
Adding to the glory, Sana Chouhan of district Poonch was adjudged the Best Girl Player in the Sub-Junior Girls category, bringing further pride to the district.
Speaking on the occasion, Rajinder Singh, renowned Taekwondo Coach of J&K, said that this milestone is the result of the players’ hard work and the constant support of their parents.
Jaskaran Singh, Paqiza Irshad, Wasia Kouser, Maryiam un Nissa, Sana Chouhan, Arohi Dutta, Izba Nazir Ruksana Akhter has been selected for Sub-Junior National Taekwondo Championship while Vushvas Sudan and Toseef Tahir has been selected for Senior National Taekwondo Championship to be held at Odisha.
