Srinagar, Jan 13: Inspector General of Police Abdul Gani Mir today said police will strive to promote sports among the youth and will continue to provide a platform to them.
Mir, while giving away prizes to the winners of the Zonal level Chess and Carom championship in Srinagar, said that the youth develop sportsmanship as it inculcates discipline that can go a long way in facing challenge during their lives, and lauded the quality of sports talent displayed by the participants in the competition. .
A police spokesman said in the Carom competition Insha Afzal lifted the title in female category by trouncing Iram Rashid in the finals. In the male category Mohammad Yaqoob won the title by defeating Shoaib Nazir in the finals.
In Chess Competition Farhana Mehraj defeated Shaista Rashid to bag the title in female category, while Manzoor Ahmad Mir won the men’s title by trouncing Mehraj-u-Din.
Among other SSP Srinagar Amit Kumar, SO IGP Farooq Ahmad and Deputy SP Imran Farooq attended the prize distribution ceremony.
