POONCH, Feb 18: The Pir Panjal Cricket Tournament concluded with an exciting grand finale, where Team Star Club Surankote claimed victory over Team Poonch 11. The tournament attracted 40 teams, demonstrating the growing enthusiasm for sports among the youth in the region.
The closing ceremony was marked by an inspiring address by Commanding Officer 16 RR, Colonel Davesh, who encouraged the youth to actively participate in sports and channel their energy into positive pursuits and asked them to stay away from drugs. He emphasized that sports help develop discipline, teamwork and resilience while keeping young minds engaged in constructive activities, steering them away from negative influences.
During the prize distribution ceremony, Colonel Davesh honoured the Champion Team (Star Club Surankote), Runners-up (Poonch 11), Man of the Match, Man of the Tournament and other outstanding performers for their remarkable achievements.
The Pir Panjal Winter Festival, which hosted the cricket tournament, provided a platform for youth engagement, fostering discipline and camaraderie. The Indian Army’s initiative in organizing such events continues to inspire the region’s youth, strengthening community bonds through sports and promoting healthy, positive involvement.
