Pathania announces Rs 1 crore for upgradation of stadium

UDHAMPUR, June 23: In a landmark announcement aimed at empowering the youth of Udhampur through sports, Ranbir Singh Pathania, MLA Udhampur East and BJP spokesperson, unveiled a comprehensive sports development package of Rs 1 crore for the upgradation of Mahalanga Chaugan Stadium and other key sports infrastructure across the district.
Addressing an electrifying crowd at the iconic Mahalanga Chaugan Stadium in Majalta, Pathania called on the region’s youth to embrace sports not just as a hobby, but as a viable career path. “Our youth have immense potential to shine at national and international levels. All they need is opportunity and support,” he stated.
The stadium, now under the J&K Sports Council, is being transformed into a modern sports complex. In addition to the Rs 1 crore allocation, Pathania also announced Rs 30 lakh for a traditional Akhara at Roun Domel and new synthetic courts at Udhampur, Kawa, Mand West, Krowa, Sunal, Sundla, Darsoo, and Garh Samna Banjh.
The event celebrated the historic Mahalanga Chaugan Dangal, a traditional wrestling event with a legacy spanning 70-80 years. Pathania emphasized the importance of preserving the rich cultural heritage associated with the Dangal, Jagrata, and local Mela, which continue to draw lakhs of visitors.
The announcement was welcomed by the Dangal Committee, led by Krishan Kumar, and attended by senior officials, DDC members, Sarpanches, and a vibrant cross-section of the community.
