JAMMU, May 8: A large number of sportspersons and their parents lodged a strong protest against the sudden hike in fee for availing the facility of Indoor Complex, MA Stadium and multiple purpose ground at same, here today.
The protesters raised slogans against the concerned authorities for hiking the entry fee for the Indoor Complex from an amount of Rs 450 to over Rs 1700 for juniors and Rs 750 to 2800 for the seniors. As also Rs 500 per year instead of Rs 20 for availing the facility in MA Stadium.
“This sudden hike in the fee structure has left the sportspersons in the lurch and kept them in a fix as to whether continue with the game or stop the same once and for all,” said one of the parents, expressing anonymity while talking to EXCELSIOR.
Another parent while expressing anguish over the hike in fee said that with all air condition and allied facilities the fee at Indira Gandhi International Stadium, New Delhi is just Rs 75 per month, which is much lesser than fee here.
“If such is the policy of the Government, then expecting promotion of sports and games in the State is simply to cry for the moon,” said a budding sportsperson.
Meanwhile, when contacted, Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Taj Mohi-ud-Din said that he was not sure of as much fee hike for availing the facility of the infrastructure available with the J&K State Sports Council and assured that the hike anything over 10 to 15 percent will certainly be rolled back at an earliest.
