JAMMU, Feb 9: Parents of competitive swimmers in Jammu & Kashmir have submitted a joint representation to the Jammu & Kashmir Swimming Association (JKSA), urging the conduct of elections and formal recognition from the J&K Sports Council within 30 days.
As per handout issued the step follows a meeting in Gandhi Nagar, where parents expressed concern over the prolonged administrative deadlock affecting swimming in the UT. They pointed out the absence of officially recognised State Championships, limited access to government training facilities, uncertain selections, and a lack of transparent pathways for swimmers.
Among others present at the meeting were Adv. Chethan Prabhakar, Pervaiz Ahmad Malik, Vikrant Parmar, Roohi Pervaiz Malik, Meenakshi Salathia and Goshikha Parmar.
Parents also sought clarity on the recognition of certificates from National-level competitions conducted under the Sports Federation of India (SFI), which are vital for scholarships, incentives and future opportunities. Emphasising a non-adversarial, child-focused approach, parents urged JKSA to act promptly, warning that further delays could adversely affect the development of young athletes in the Union Territory.
