JAMMU, July 3: Department of Environmental Sciences in collaboration with Ravi Eco Club of Government Degree College Kathua today organised online declamation contest on the occasion of ‘International Plastic Bag Free Day’.
The topic of the event was “Impact of Plastic Bags on the terrestrial and Aquatic Ecosystem and Alternatives of Plastic Bags in the present era”. A total of 85 students attended the event wherein 30 students shared their views on the topic.
The event was organized under the patronage of Prof. Assa Ram Sharma Principal GDC Kathua. The College Principal said that millions of plastic bags are dumped in the surroundings without bothering to its ill effects on the living beings. He also highlighted that the plastic has entered the food chain and even our bodies contains microscopic bits of plastics.
Deeksha Sharma bagged first prize, while 2nd and 3rd prizes were clinched by Alieza Katal and and Vishali Sharma besides Bharti Devi and Tamanna secured consolation prizes.
Dr. Deepshikha Sharma HoD Environmental Sciences and convener Ravi Eco Club coordinated the event, whereas Prof Surbhi Gupta and Prof Vrinda Sharma were jury members.
Prof Neeru Sharma presented vote of thanks, whereas Prof. Jasvinder Singh, Dr. Anupma Arora, Dr. Ritu Bhagat, Dr. Chetna Gupta, Prof. Rupali Nanda, Prof. Sheetal Sharma and Prof. Ajay Gupta were also present during the event.
