BHADERWAH, Oct 26: The Olive Green Cup Cricket Tournament kicked off at the Post Graduate College Ground, Bhaderwah, under Operation Sadhbhavana, inaugurated by Brigadier Sunil Mishra, Commander 9 Sector Rashtriya Rifles. The event was attended by SSP Doda Sandeep Mehta, CO 4RR Colonel Yogesh Chouhan, ADC Doda Sunil Bhutyal, social workers, local sports enthusiasts, and hundreds of spectators.
Organized by the Indian Army’s 4 Rashtriya Rifles Battalion (Bihar), the 45-day tournament will see 80 teams from Additional District Bhaderwah and the Chirala region compete. Brig Mishra praised the youth for discipline, teamwork, and dedication, emphasizing sports as a tool for leadership, fitness, and nation-building while promoting a drug-free society under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan.
SSP Sandeep Mehta highlighted sports’ role in steering youth away from social evils, while Colonel Yogesh Chouhan reiterated the Army’s commitment to providing platforms for remote-region talent. Local cricketer Touseef Malik expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity to play in front of dignitaries, and social worker Naseer Mehboob Paddar lauded the Army’s outreach.
