JAMMU, Mar 12: The North India Powerlifting Championship 2025-26 began today at the Indoor Stadium, Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu. The four-day championship is being organized by the J&K UT Powerlifting Association and will continue till March 15.
The event was inaugurated by Arun Gupta, President of the Chamber of Commerce & Industry Jammu, who attended as the chief guest. Keshav Chopra, Chairman of Samvedna Society was the guest of honour.
The championship features competitions in Sub-Junior, Junior and Open categories for both men and women. Athletes are competing in Equipped and Classic (unequipped) formats. Around 210 lifters from eight states of North India are participating in the event, which is being supervised by 15 officials from Powerlifting India.
Speaking on the occasion, Arun Gupta appreciated the efforts of the association for organizing the championship in Jammu and said such events help promote sports culture and encourage youth to focus on discipline and healthy activities.
Keshav Chopra also highlighted the importance of sports in building character and motivating young athletes. He said initiatives like this championship provide a platform for youth to showcase their talent and dedication.
The event is being organized under the leadership of Rajat Sharma, Chairman of the J&K UT Powerlifting Association. Other members of the organizing committee include Ajay Sharma (General Secretary), Vikram Thakur (Vice President), Rahul Sawhney (Senior Vice President), Umesh Raina and Ajeet Pal Singh. Among those present were Rajiv Sharma, Anil Gupta, Rajeev Gupta, Manish Gupta, Rajesh Gupta (Secretary), Rajesh Gupta (Treasurer) and Vikas Kumar.
