New Challengers Club seals berth in Chevrolet Cup final

JAMMU, July 15: Team effort helped New Challengers Cricket Club to drub KC Sports Club by 6 wickets and seal berth in the finals of the ongoing Chevrolet Cup T20 Cricket Tournament, being organized by KCSC and sponsored by KC Motors at KC School ground, here.
Earlier, winning the toss and batting first, KCSC scored a modest total of 125 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, losing 8 wickets in the process. Ashwani Bhat was the top scorer with 35 runs off 24 balls, studded with 3 boundaries and one massive six, while Amrit Pal contributed valuable 27 runs off 15 balls with 2 fours and 2 sixes. Both the batsmen were delight to watch and in particular Bhat, who was in awe-inspiring touch and chose the balls on merit. His magnificent cover drive off speedster Rohit Sharma was simply a crackers burst as the ball was only seen when it hit some hard surface outside the fence and a loft over long-on after the bowling of talented Ramdayal in the depth overs was eye-catching. Amrit’s slog sweep off Hardeep Singh over square leg area was also a delight for his teammates and the spectators and a shock for the rivals. Apart from these two batsmen, Sahil Lotra, Vijay Dogra and Sahil Bhalwal chipped in with 18, 13 and 10 runs to the total respectively.
For New Challengers Club, right-arm medium fast bowler, Ramdayal Punia, wrist spinner Deepak Singh Manhas and Monu bagged 2 wickets each, while promising Rohit Sharma claimed one wicket.
In reply, New Challengers Club chased the target in 19.1 overs by losing 4 wickets, thus won the match by 6 wickets. Manjeet Singh was the top scorer with 35 runs off 31 balls, with four fours and on six, while Parveen Singh contributed 19 runs of 24 balls with the help of 3 fours. However, the highlights of the innings were brilliant knocks of unbeaten 32 and 27 runs by Ramdayal and Gokul Baru respectively. Ramdayal hit 3 boundaries in his 31-ball innings, while Baru smashed 3 fours in his 20-ball knock. Both these batsmen showed composure and determination to take their side to home. Abhishek Jamwal was the pick of the bowlers for KCSC, who scalped 3 important wickets by conceding 19 runs in his 3 overs, while Sahil Bhalwal claimed one wicket. Ramdayal was adjudged man of the match for his all-round display. He was presented a Westside Coupon worth Rs 1000 by the organizers.
