JAMMU, Nov 27: Minister for Education, Naeem Akhtar inaugurated a three day long workshop on ‘Enrichment Programme, Teaching English’ for classes VI-VIII at DPS, here today.
The delegates from more than 50 schools of North Zone actively participated in the programme. Priya Sethi, Minister of State for Education, Information and Culture presided over the function.
Large number of educationists, parents and prominent citizens graced the occasion with their presence.
The welcome address was delivered by Ruchi Chabra, Principal DPS Jammu.
Kunwrani Ritu Singh, Pro Vice Chairperson, DPS Jammu and Vineta Kher, Director CEM DPSS New Delhi, Prof Vandhana Sharma, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences & Director School of Languages & Literature, Mata Vaishno Devi University Katra were present on the occasion.
Meenu Gupta, Headmistress DPS Jammu welcomed the key note speaker.
She also thanked Mr. Shunglu, Chairman DPSS New Delhi and Prof B P Khandelwal,  member Delhi Public School Society for giving the consent to organize the Enrichment Programme at DPS Jammu.
Earlier, the workshop began with the lighting of ceremonial lamp by the chief guest and other dignitaries.
Speaking on the occasion, Mrs Sethi, stressed upon the teachers for raising the standard of education in government schools so that under privileged students are also benefitted.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest lavished praise for DPS Jammu for being the best in shaping the future of the young ones and upgrading the standard of education in the State for the last about twenty years.
The vote of thanks was presented by SS Sodhi, Director Delhi Public School, Jammu.
Meanwhile, the workshop on day one was divided into four sessions. The 1st session was addressed by Prof. Vandhana Sharma, Dean Faculty HSS SMVDU, Katra on role and importance of teaching English at middle school level in students development, which was a very informative session.
Session two was conducted on using ICT in English language learning by Rohini Bhat, National Representative for Trinity College London. She emphasized on the need of using technology in teaching of the English language such as using multimedia videos, television, radio, youtube clippings and the internet as an effective tool to aid a teacher and discussed its benefits.
Kiran Mishra took the third session on Developing Reading Skills. She is the senior English Broadcaster at All India Radio.
Session Four was taken by Rohini Bhat, wherein she gave an insight on the importance of preparing effective questions for assessments.
The concluding session five was addressed by Saloni Mahajan, Resource Associate for NIE (Times of India), who focused on how the improvisation aspect of drama gives students opportunities for developing their communication skills.
