JAMMU, Jan 1: Experienced middle-order batsman, Chander Mohan Pandita stole the limelight by scoring thunderous century and sweeping maximum awards after guiding Moon Strikers XI to a convincing victory over TRT Kings to lift the title trophy of the mega cricket tournament which concluded at Sports Stadium, Jagti, near here today.
Twenty seven teams from J&K and outside the Union Territory took part in this cricketing extravaganza, which was organised by Orzu Cultural, Sports and Educational Trust, under the overall supervision of chief organiser, Subash Zutshi and Media Incharge Sanjay Batra.
Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner (Migrants), KK Sidha was the chief guest on the closing ceremony, while senior BJP leaders Yudhvir Sethi presided over the function. BJP leader Nand Kishore and Kashmiri Pandit leader and Displaced Minority Prabhari AAP, MK Yogi were the special guests, while Tehsildar Imran, SDPO Pardeep Kumar and SHO Nagrota Vishav Partap Singh were the guests of honour.
Earlier, in the final match, batting first, Moon Strikers scored a good total of 202 runs in the stipulated 20 overs. Chander Mohan slammed a fabulous century, top scoring with 110 runs off 64 balls, studded with 9 fours and 9 sixes.
For TRT Kings, Bhumesh Bhat took 2 wickets.
In reply, TRT Kings managed to score 184 runs in the allotted overs, this lost the match by a narrow margin of 18 runs. Ajay and Bhumesh Bhat scored brilliant fifties. Ajay contributed 52 off 35 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes, while Bhumesh scored 51 off 29 balls studded with 4 fours and 3 sixes. Rahul Koul and Chander Mohan took 2 wickets each for Moon Strikers XI. For scoring power-packed century in the finals, Chander Mohan was adjudged man of the match. He was also declared as the best batsman of the tournament for scoring 260 runs in three matches. He also got the man of the series award for superb all-round display, while Bhumesh Bhat got the best bowler award.
Earlier, in the Tennis Ball Cricket finals, Sydney Thunders defeated Lalitaditya Cricket Club by 32 runs to win the title. Rahul Bhat was declared as the man of the match and best batsman, while Binny Manhas was adjudged as the best bowler.
The event was sponsored by Landmark Crafts Pvt Ltd and Nirvana Buildtech Pvt Ltd.
The winners and the runners-up teams/players were honoured by the chief guest and the other dignitaries on the occasion.
Speaking on the the occasion, all the dignitaries including Mr Sidha, Mr Yudhvir, Mr Nand Kishore and Mr Yogi lavished praise on the organisers for holding this mega event in a most befitting manner.
They said sports and games keep youth away from drugs and other allied social evils and helps them not to derail from the mainstream.
