JAMMU, Sept 6: The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of MIER College of Education, in collaboration with IIT Jammu, organised an interactive workshop on Novel Methods of Assessment at the college campus.
The workshop began with a welcome address by Prof. Adit Gupta, Principal, MIER College, who highlighted the need to redesign assessments to promote creativity, critical thinking and holistic learning. This was followed by an overview by Dr. Amitash Ojha, Assistant Professor and HoD, Humanities & Social Sciences, IIT Jammu, who emphasised reflective and learner-centered strategies over conventional testing. An engaging icebreaker activity titled “Best and Worst Assessment I Ever Took” set the tone for the day.
Dr. Garima Singh, Assistant Professor, led the first session on Project-Based Assessment, discussing real-world, outcome-aligned projects. Dr. Ankita Yadav, Assistant Professor, conducted the second session on Peer and Self-Assessment, focusing on collaborative rubrics and reflective practices.
Dr. Shafkat Shafi Dar, Assistant Professor, demonstrated Gamification and Digital Tools, showcasing platforms like Kahoot and Mentimeter. Dr. Ankit Kathuria, Associate Professor, Civil Engineering, introduced Creative Assessments like digital storytelling and video presentations.
A group activity followed where participants designed creative assessments for selected topics. The workshop concluded with reflections and a pledge to adopt at least one new method. Jasleen Mohial, IQAC Coordinator, delivered the vote of thanks, acknowledging the resource persons and participants.
