JAMMU, Dec 4: Meghalaya emerged as the Champion of the 68th National School Games U-17 Boys Football Championship, defeating Bihar by 1-0 in the final at Sainik School Nagrota, Jammu. The match’s only goal was scored by Mebanlamlynti Masharing of Meghalaya, who was also named the Player of the Tournament. With this victory, Meghalaya secured the Gold medal, while Bihar claimed Silver.
In the third-place match, Jharkhand defeated West Bengal by 4-1 via penalty shootouts to win the Bronze. Earlier in the semifinals, Meghalaya triumphed by 2-0 over West Bengal, and Bihar overcame Jharkhand by 4-2 in a penalty shootout.
The event saw 760 participants from 38 teams across India and was organized by the Directorate of Youth Services and Sports J&K under the School Games Federation of India (SGFI). Secretary of Youth Services and Sports, Sarmad Hafeez, was the chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony, where he presented trophies and medals to the winners.
He was joined by Rajinder Singh Tara, Director General of Youth Services and Sports J&K, and Capt (IN) Shibu Devasia, Principal of Sainik School Nagrota. Joint Director Ved Prakash and Deputy Director Jitendra Mishra were also present.
This Championship is part of the month-long 68th National School Games, with Judo, Fencing, and Wushu events already completed, while the Football U-17 Boys & Girls competition is still ongoing. Over 4,000 participants have competed in the series.
