JAMMU, Sept 11: Jammu & Kashmir’s promising young tennis player, Mayank Gupta, has brought pride to the region by reaching the finals of the prestigious Harvest AITA Champion Series tennis tournament (Under-14), held at Harvest Tennis Academy, Jassowal, Punjab. The tournament, which began on September 8, concluded today with Mayank putting up a strong fight in the final against Karthik S.B. Pujala of Telangana.
As per his father, Vineet Gupta, Mayank played his heart out in the final but narrowly missed the title. Despite the loss, the achievement is noteworthy, especially considering that no other player from J&K currently features in the Top 100 Boys U-14 rankings. Mayank, who is ranked 114th in India, continues to rise with consistent performances and an unyielding commitment to the sport.
He is currently training under Aditya Sachdeva, India’s No. 1 tennis coach and former mentor of ATP player Yuki Bhambri, at the Round Glass Tennis Academy in Chandigarh. Under Sachdeva’s expert guidance, Mayank is preparing for upcoming international tournaments and the highly anticipated U-14 Nationals in Delhi on October 6.
In addition to his on-court achievements, Mayank has also displayed commendable social responsibility. Over the past three years, he has donated all his prize money – totaling Rs 45,000 – to the Shaheed Parivar Fund through Punjab Kesari, and was also honoured for his contributions.
Mayank Gupta’s journey reflects not only sporting talent but also character, making him a true role model for young athletes across the region.
