JAMMU, Dec 23: Formidable Manipur and strong Punjab emerged champions in the 63rd National School Games Under-19 and Under-17 Wushu Championship, organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports at Indoor Complex, MA stadium, here.
Minister for Technical Education, Information Technology and Youth Services and Sports, Moulvi Imran Raza Ansari was the chief guest on the closing ceremony, who felicitated the winners on the occasion.
While Manipur bagged gold in Under-19 category, Assam and J&K claimed silver and bronze medals respectively.
In Under-17 category, Punjab clinched gold, Delhi bagged silver and J&K claimed bronze medal.
Speaking on the closing function, Ansari said that any form of sports has vast health benefits as they involve both physical and mental activity, adding that they induce positive energy and enhance knowledge of the sportspersons.
Ansari said that Wushu and other related games including Karate should be introduced and taught to the children as the game is having many health related benefits besides being a tool of self defence especially for the women folk.
Moreover, Ansari said that the participants of these games who had come from across the country are the peace ambassadors of the state who can change the perception of people outside state and will provide a chance for outsiders to see the real picture of the state which is totally different as presented by a section of media.
He said such games shall also help the state sportsman to a large extent and eventually open more avenues for them to participate at the national and international platforms.
On the occasion, Director YSS lauded the efforts of the field staff of Youth Services and Sports (YSS) in making the event a grand success and said that the state contingents who are taking part in various National Level Events are doing exceptionally well and have won many medals for the state so far.
He applauded those players of J&K who played quality game and clinched medals in the 63rd NSG Wushu Championship.
The Minister was accompanied by Additional Secretary to Government YSS, Rajnish Kumar, Director YSS, Sheikh Fayaz, JD YSS, Madan Lal, Members from SGFI and other senior officers of the Sports department were also present. Among others senior officers of Wushu federation, Vijay Saraf was also present.
