JAMMU, Apr 8: On the 2nd day of trials held for selection of state team for 2nd North Zone Sport Climbing Competition for Visually Challenged Children, three boys namely Mahesh Singh, Wasim Akram and Mohd. Azam Khan, all from Residential School for Blind, Roop Nagar, Jammu, were selected by Mountaineering Association of J&K. With this the strength of the state team has gone up to 6 including 3 girls selected earlier.
The team accompanied by 2 personal escorts of the respective schools along with a coach and a manager will leave for Delhi on April 15 to participate in the North Zone Sport Climbing Competition for Visually Challenged Children scheduled to be organized by Indian Mountaineering Foundation, North Zone Committee in IMF complex, New Delhi on April 17, 2017.
Today the selection trials were held under the direct supervision of Ram Khajuria, General Secretary of Mountaineering Association of J&K. Only 8 boys competed for the three available places in the state team. Besides the 3 selected boys the other climbers included Imran, Ankit, Aryan, Bunty Kumar and Sourav Singh.
Rahul Sharma and Ramesh Khajuria, Directors of Sprawling Buds School also remained present during the selection trials and keenly watched the performance of the sightless climbers. They also distributed refreshment among the participants and promised all possible help for the promotion of sport climbing among the visually challenged children.
Prominent among others who conducted the trials included Shawetica Khajuria, Judge, Shashi Kant, Route Setter;  Ambreen Fatima, Juhi Jamwal, Poonam, Vishali and Razia Tabassum and Rudra Partap Singh.
Meanwhile, a weeklong coaching camp for the selected climbers shall commence tomorrow at Sprawling Buds School, Ban Talab, Jammu under the supervision of    Shawetica Khajuria, Joint Secretary, Mountaineering Association of J&K and trainer of the state team, Shashi Kant Sharma.
