Srinagar, Mar 22: The two-day Magpie Snow Games organized by Magie Hydel Pvt. Ltd in collaboration with Department of Tourism, Kashmir concluded amid much fanfare at ski resort of Gulmarg on Sunday.
The first ever such games saw top cyclists and athletes of Valley competing against each other in the newly introduced events of snow running, snow cycling downhill and cycling head on events.
In the cycling downhill category, famous skier of valley known as Ghulam Muhammad Wani (Guli) surprised everyone by finishing first while as Mansoor finished second. Tanveer Hussain finished third.
In the Cycling Head on, Muhammad Umer Teli finished first while as Mansoor again had to contend himself with second place. Umer Bhat finished third.
Earlier in snow running, Umer Nabi finished first while as Irfan Ahmad finished second. Muhammad Umer finished third.
Regional Transport Officer, Mahmood Ahmad Shah was chief guest on the occasion and distributed prizes among the winners. Among others present on the occasion were, Assistant Director Tourism,Gulmarg, Syed Fahim Bihaqi, Director Magpie Hydel, Mir Mudasir, ATO, Gulmarg GM Dar, J&K Sports Development Association office bearers, Rauf Ahmad Tramboo, Tariq Ghani, Mir Nazir, Altaf-ur-Rehman, Sajid Hamid, Bashir Damna and various Tourism officials.
Giving details about the event, Mir Mudasir said, “The idea came and we went ahead with it. After seeing its success we have decided to make it regular affair and organize it on much larger scale. It has got vast scope and will be among major attractions for Tourists”.
Assistant Director Tourism,Gulmarg, Syed Fahim Bihaqi assured that his aim will be develop snow running and cycling in the Gulmarg as it has got huge potenetail of becoming major attractions during winter season apart from skiing.
