JAMMU, Mar 17: MA Sports Club clinched the title of the inaugural Kabaddi Gold Cup by defeating Jammu United in a thrilling final held at the Kabaddi Arena, MA Stadium, Jammu. The three-day tournament was organised by the Arun Sharma Sports and Social Welfare Trust in collaboration with the J&K Amateur Kabaddi Association (JKAKA) and Kreeda Bharati J&K, with support from the J&K Sports Council.
MLA, Jammu East, Yudhvir Sethi attended the event as the chief guest and presented trophies, cash prizes and individual awards to the winners and runners-up. He lauded the organizers for their efforts in promoting sports and encouraging youth participation. He also praised renowned handball coach Arun Sharma for nurturing international-level players from the region. As per handout issued, the MLA assured financial and related support for the development of Kabaddi Stadium as a National level venue.
Important to mention here that Arun Sharma Trust, besides running a Handball Academy in the city, has been engaged in organising different sports events thereby engaged the youth in constructive activities.
Ashutosh Sharma said the Trust is committed to engaging youth in constructive activities through regular sports and fitness programs. He highlighted that the Trust also runs a Handball Academy and organizes events throughout the year.
General Secretary of JKAKA, Dr Kuldeep Gupta expressed his gratitude to the Arun Sharma Trust for making Kabaddi part of the annual calendar of activities. He declared that Kabaddi Gold Cup in under-23 age group will be made a regular feature.
In the valedictory function, Rajesh Gupta and Zoralwar Singh Jamwal (spokesperson BJP) were guests of honour. Among other distinguished gathering were Shakti Dutt (vice president Vishwa Hindu Parishad), Dr Kishore Sharma (Principal SRML Higher Secondary School), R C Vaid (senior vice president Kreeda Bharati), Raj Kumar (joint secretary Kreeda Bharati) , Surinder Mohan (ex-Secretary JKAKA), Akshay Sharma (DySP), Pawan Suri, Anil Modi, S S Gill, Tejinder Singh, P P Singh, Sanjit Kumar, Rajesh Sumbria and Atul Pangotra.
