JAMMU, Feb 17: Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, today inaugurated the first edition of the Sikh Cricket Premier League (SCPL) in Jammu. The event, which has garnered significant attention from the local Sikh community, aims to combine sporting enthusiasm with cultural significance, fostering community development and social empowerment.
Lieutenant Governor described the SCPL not merely as a sporting event but as a “cultural and social initiative” that reflects the commitment to holistic community development. He emphasized that the initiative strives to build a brighter future for the youth of the Sikh community in Jammu and Kashmir.
He also acknowledged the crucial role of the All Jammu Kashmir Sikh Coordination Committee in empowering the Sikh community and preserving its rich cultural heritage through such innovative programs.
The Lieutenant Governor underscored the importance of initiatives like the Sikh Cricket Premier League in promoting inclusive growth across the region. “Today, Jammu and Kashmir is working towards inclusive socio-economic growth. Such initiatives hold the key to equitable development and change,” he added. He also noted that such efforts serve to instill values of unity and discipline among the youth.
Sinha reiterated his firm belief in the power of Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) to foster youth empowerment. “In 2020, I had initiated several public-private partnership projects aimed at fostering development. Today, we continue to build an enabling policy environment that addresses the concerns of our youth swiftly and effectively,” he remarked.
The Lieutenant Governor further emphasized his dedication to developing a robust ecosystem where Sikh youth, particularly those from Jammu and Kashmir, can access opportunities and contribute meaningfully to society. “The youth of the Sikh community represent the core of socio-economic transformation. We are dedicated to mainstreaming Sikh youth into the development process,” he asserted.
The event witnessed the presence of prominent personalities, including Ajit Singh, Chairman of the All Jammu Kashmir Sikh Coordination Committee, heads of District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committees, representatives of various Sikh organizations, players, coaches and a large gathering of youth.
Senior officials from the Police and civil administration, along with Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor of Jammu University, were also present at the occasion.
Meanwhile, Veenu Cricket Club Tral won by 13 runs against BNF Cricket Club in opening match of the Sikh Premier Cricket League at the University of Jammu ground. Batting first, VCC posted a total of 147 runs, with Gurmeet Singh scoring 49 runs. In reply, BNF was bowled out for 134 runs, with Veeru top-scoring at 40. Jasvinder Singh of VCC took 3 wickets for 20 runs, earning him the Player of the Match award. Aman Chopra of BNF claimed 5 wickets but couldn’t prevent the loss. The match was officiated by Suresh Singh, Satpal Singh, Jagtar Singh and Rajesh Dhar.
