JAMMU, Dec 11: The dates for the Khelo India Winter Games (KIWG) 2025 have been announced, with the Union Territories of Ladakh and Jammu & Kashmir set to host key segments of the event.
Ladakh will host the ice events, including Ice Hockey and Ice Skating, from January 23 to 27, 2025 in Leh, marking the second consecutive year that Leh will be the venue for ice sports. Jammu & Kashmir will host the snow events, such as Alpine Skiing, Nordic Skiing, Ski Mountaineering, and Snowboarding, from February 22 to 25, 2025 in Gulmarg.
The Khelo India Winter Games, which began in 2020, have seen growing participation. In 2024, more than 1,200 athletes competed, with 136 medals at stake. This year’s edition also marked the first time that the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, in collaboration with the Sports Authority of India, managed the technical conduct of the Games.
Union Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya emphasized the importance of these Games in identifying potential athletes for the 2026 Winter Olympics. He also noted the encouraging participation of athletes from remote Himalayan villages, highlighting the growing interest in winter sports across India.
