Kargil, Apr 28: In a historic achievement, Team Ladakh opened its medal tally for the season with an outstanding performance at the 1st Federation Cup Taekwondo Championship, held from April 25 to 29, 2025, in Nashik, Maharashtra. The team, comprising just two athletes, won three gold medals, making it a proud moment for the Union Territory of Ladakh.
Shanaz Parveen, an International Taekwondo Player and State Awardee, secured the gold medal in the Senior Under-30 Female Individual Poomsae category. Sonam Chosphal, also an International Player, clinched the gold in the Senior Under-30 Male Individual Poomsae category.
Together, they delivered a flawless performance to win their third gold in the Senior Under-30 Pair Poomsae event, showcasing remarkable synchronization and skill.
Both athletes are currently undergoing elite training under Master Atul Pangotra, India’s top Taekwondo coach, whose dedicated mentorship has played a pivotal role in their success.
Tahir Hussain Zubdavi, Joint Director, Youth Services and Sports, UT Ladakh, lauded the athletes’ exceptional performances, calling their success a beacon of inspiration for youth across Ladakh. He reaffirmed the department’s commitment to nurturing sports talent and supporting athletes on national and international stages.
