Khelo India Games in full swing across Jammu division

JAMMU, Oct 4: Khelo India Games were in full swing across prominent districts of Jammu division, here.
The two-day sports event held under the sports for peace and development a component of Khelo India initiative concluded here today.
Around 24 schools of Block Bhaderwah participated in the event and witnessed competitions in Kho-Kho, Kabaddi and Volleyball. In the finals played today, the under 17 kho-kho was won by AV Bhawan while HS Nagar and Model Secular School end up as second and third runners-up.
The U-17 Volleyball title was clinched by HS Manthala by beating HSS (boys) Bhaderwah in the final while HS Nichla Thara stood at 3rd position.
Similarly, U-17 Kabaddi was won by HSS Bhalra. HS Athkhar Public School and HSS Sartingal end up with 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.
Likewise, U-19 Kho-Kho and Kabaddi and Volleyball boys category finals were won by HSS boys by defeating HSS Bhalra and HSS Sartingal respectively.
ASP Bhaderwah was the chief guest at the valedictory function.
Tehsil Level competition under Khelo India was held at Tehsil Kahara in Doda.
Sub Divisional Magistrates Mohd Anwar Banday today launched Khelo India scheme in Tehsil Kahara Doda in the premises of Govt High School Kahara.
A large number of citizens here were as part of the Centre’s Khelo India initiative, “Sports for Peace and Development”.
SDM Thathri Mohd Anwar Banday appealed the youth of the Tehsil Kahara to participate in large number in the competition.
He said that Khelo India scheme has been launched with an objective to involve youth in sports activities to channelize their energy in right direction and imbibe leadership qualities, team spirit and discipline among them.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Tehsildar Kahara, Bansi Lal and BDO Kahara Attar Amin.
In Under-19 Volleyball, Higher Secondary School Malanoo defeated Higher Secondary School Halaran by 5 points, while in Kabaddi Under-17, High School Batrie defeated High School Tanta by 6 points. In Kho-Kho, High School Kahara beat High School Batrie
Athletics Meet of block Mandi of district Poonch concluded at BSF ground Mandi under Khelo lndia for peace and development tournament.
S Ranjeet Singh, Senior Lecturer was the chief guest on this occasion, while S Surinder Singh, ZPEO Sathra and Veerta Devi, ZPEO Mandi were present.
In girls, under 19 years girls’ section 100 metres race, High School Sathra got first place while GHSS Mandi secured second and third place respectively.
In under-19 years girls 200 metres race, HSS girls Mandi clinched first and second place while High school Sathra got third place.
In 400 girls High School Sathra got first and third place, while HSS girls Mandi won second place.
In boys section under-19 age group, HSS Mandi got first and third place while High School Sathra claimed second place.
The technical panel comprised of Amresh Sharma, Rajinder Singh, Harmik Singh, Shabir Shamhoon, Sukhbir Singh, Manjit Singh, Ashok Sharma and Rajnish Maini.
Meanwhile, in Jammu district, the Khelo India events were held at various zone.
The Inter-School competitions in boys section under Khelo India were inaugurated by Suraiya Jabeen, Additional Deputy Commissioner Jammu at Govt High School Gandhi Nagar.
District Youth Services and Sports Officer Jammu, Chanchal Kour was the guest of honour.
The students of Govt High School Gandhi Nagar presented a colourful cultural item.
In Kho-Kho 6-12 boys final, ms Digiana beat MS Langer by 7 points, while in 17-19 boys final, HSS Bahu Fort got the better of HSS Channi Himmat by 5 points.
In Kabaddi 13-16 boys final, MS Digiana defeated HS Deeli by 12 points, while in 17-19 final, HSS Gandhi Ngar drubbed HSS Channi by 15 points, while in Volleyball 13-16 boys final, HS Digiana lifted the title, while in 17-19 final, HSS Surinsar drubbed HSS Gandhi Nagar by (2-1) sets.
The Tournaments under Khelo India were held at Jammu, RS Pura and Satwari zones also.
