JAMMU, Feb 1: Khalsa Club, Gole Gujral and Platinum Club smashed their rivals in the men and women categories finals of the Senior Hockey Tournament, which was organized by Hockey Jammu and Kashmir at KK Hakku Stadium, here today.
In men’s category, Khalsa Club, Gole Gujral registered win over 20-Punjab by 3-2 goals. In the first half, Harpreet Singh of 20-Punjab netted the first goal of the match in the 10th minute, whereas Sukhvinder Singh of 20-Punjab smashed the second goal of the match in the 20th minute.
With two goals lead, Khalsa Club were seen striving hard to equalize the game before the end of the first half, but could not as only Surinder Singh succeeded in netting the first goal for his side in the 28th minute.
The second half started with 2 goals lead over Khalsa Club, which was equalized by passionate Surinder Singh in the 37th minute.
In the 50th minute, Jagjeet Singh of Khalsa Club with his majestic hockey skills netted the goal and raised the scorecard to 3-2 goals, which the opponent team failed to equalize till the final whistle by the umpire.
In the men’s category, BSF Kashmir remained at third place.
Earlier, in women’s category, the final match was played between Platinum Women’s Club and Jammu University, in which former registered win by 4-3 goals via tie breaker.
In first and second half, the players of both the team displayed excellent hockey and the match ended with 1-1 goal.
In the tie-breaker, Platinum Women’s Club dashed four goals, while Jammu University smashed three goals.
On the valedictory function, DIG BSF Sunil Mehta was the chief guest, who awarded the winners in presence of Rajiv Sharma, Business Executive, who was guest of honour. Dr Taran Singh, Jamil Mir (DySP), Iqbal Singh, Retd Manager, J&K Bank, Manmohan Singh, retd XEn, Amarjit Singh Saini, Retd District Sports Officer, Rajinder Singh, Treasurer Hockey J&K, MS Reen, Resident Secretary, Gudyal Singh, GS Bakshi, General Secretary, Hockey J&K and sports lovers were also present on the occasion.
The final matches were officiated by Charanjeet Singh, Joginder Singh, Jagjeet Singh, Gurjeet Singh, Kulwant Singh and Jaspreet Singh.
