JU shines at KIUG 2025, secures silver in Men’s Sabre

JAMMU, Nov 28: University of Jammu (JU) registered a remarkable achievement at the Khelo India University Games (KIUG) 2025 by winning the silver medal in the Men’s Sabre Team event, emerging as the 1st Runner-Up in the Men’s Fencing Championship.
The Men’s Sabre Team put up a series of exceptional displays distinguished by technical finesse, sharp strategic execution, and unwavering grit. In a tense and action-packed final, the team demonstrated impressive resilience against defending champions Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, before narrowly going down with a close 39-45 scoreline. Though they trailed at various stages, the University of Jammu fencers mounted spirited comebacks, keeping the contest fiercely competitive and engaging until the concluding touch.
The silver medal-winning lineup comprised Harshit Kohli, Vatsal Gandotra, Suryansh Sharma and Tarun Salaria, who were guided by coach Ajay Kumar and supported by University Contingent Manager Vikas Karlopia. Earlier, in the semifinals, the JU showcased a dominant performance against Panjab University, Chandigarh, clinching a decisive 45-29 victory. This authoritative win, achieved through cohesive teamwork and tactical command, advanced the team into the prestigious championship final.
Acknowledging the fencers’ dedication and the efforts of the coach and contingent manager, Dr Daud Iqbal Baba, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, JU, stated that securing a silver medal at KIUG is a significant milestone.
