JU clinches overall title at 3rd Chancellor’s Trophy 2025-26

JAMMU, Jan 19: University of Jammu reaffirmed its sporting dominance by winning the Overall Championship Trophy of the 3rd Chancellor’s Trophy 2025-26 for Men and Women, organized by the Directorate of Sports & Physical Education, University of Jammu.
The University secured 11 titles and two runner-up trophies, while Cluster University of Jammu finished overall runners-up and University of Ladakh stood second runners-up. Dr Neeraj Sharma, Registrar, University of Jammu, was the chief guest at valedictory function, with Dr Dharminder Magotra, Dr Vinod Bakshi and Dr GM Lone as guests of honour. About 800 players participated, as reported by Dr Daud Iqbal Baba, Director Sports.
In Table Tennis (Men), Cluster University of Srinagar secured third place by defeating Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Katra by 3-1, while University of Jammu clinched the title with a convincing 3-0 win over Islamic University of Science & Technology (IUST), Awantipura in the final.
The final day results in Badminton (Women), University of Jammu dominated the final and defeated Cluster University of Jammu by 2-0 to lift the trophy. The Kabaddi (Men) final witnessed a closely fought contest, where Cluster University of Jammu edged past University of Jammu by a narrow margin of one point to claim the championship.
In Volleyball (Men), University of Ladakh secured third place after defeating Cluster University of Jammu in straight sets (25-18, 25-21). The final turned into a gripping five-set encounter, with University of Jammu staging a strong comeback to defeat University of Kashmir by 3-2 sets (21-25, 24-26, 25-16, 25-22, 15-13). In Football (Men), University of Jammu emerged champions after defeating University of Ladakh by 1-0 in the final.
In Kho-Kho (Women), University of Jammu outperformed Cluster University of Jammu and won the final by 4 points. In Basketball (Men), University of Jammu defeated Central University of Jammu by 34-16, while in Basketball (Women), University of Jammu registered a 30-12 victory over MIET to secure another title.
In Handball (Men), University of Ladakh claimed third place by defeating Cluster University of Jammu by 16-07, whereas Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Amritsar won the final against University of Jammu by 28-19. In Handball (Women), University of Jammu displayed complete dominance and defeated University of Ladakh by 13-02 to lift the trophy.
All the matches were officiated by experienced technical officials including Ravish Vaid, Vikas Karlopia, Gagan Kumar, Raj Kumar Bakshi, Ranbir Singh, Dr Inderjeet Singh, Harinderpal Singh, Rishiv Sharma, Richa Mandla, Sakshi Dabgotra, Jeevan Lal, Arjun Sharma, Mena Ragesh and Anil Singh, ensuring fair play and strict adherence to the rules of the respective games.
