NEW DELHI, Aug 4: A joint expedition team consisting of instructors from three premier National Mountaineering Institutes successfully summited Mt Merag-III (6,480 meters) and Mt Kangju Kangri (6,710 meters), the highest peaks in the Pangong Tso region of Ladakh.
The participating institutes were the Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and Winter Sports (JIM&WS), Pahalgam; the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM), Uttarkashi and the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI), Darjeeling, a Defence Ministry statement said.
The expedition was flagged off on July 24 from Sonamarg and was led by Colonel Hem Chandra Singh, Principal of JIM&WS, Pahalgam. The experienced team comprised members from all three institutes: Sub Maj/Hony Lt (Retd) Rafiq Ahmad Malik (JIM&WS), Hav Sajad Hussain (JIM&WS), Nk Bharat Singh (JIM&WS), Hav/NA Yogesh (JIM&WS), Sub Maj Hajari Lal (NIM), Nb Sub Bhupinder Singh (NIM), Robin Gurung (HMI) and Zubin Rai (HMI).
Demonstrating remarkable courage, resilience, and teamwork in the face of extreme weather and high-altitude challenges, the team achieved a significant milestone in Indian mountaineering.
The landmark accomplishment not only embodies the indomitable spirit and endurance of our nation’s mountaineers but also stands as a proud testament to India’s growing prowess in adventure sports and high-altitude expeditions.(UNI)
