JKSC directs Associations to use Govt facilities for C’ship trials

JAMMU, Oct 24: The Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council has issued a directive mandating that all recognized sports associations conduct district and UT level championships and selection trials in government-owned sports facilities across the Union Territory.
The circular, issued by Nuzhat Gul, Secretary, J&K Sports Council, noted that several associations have been using privately-owned venues despite the availability of adequate government infrastructure. It emphasized that private venues often do not meet required norms, which can affect athlete participation and performance, while also undermining the optimal use of government facilities.
The Council clarified that if government infrastructure is unavailable for a particular sport or event, associations may use private facilities only with prior written permission from the Divisional Sports Officer (Jammu/Srinagar). Requests must clearly state reasons for non-availability and provide details of the proposed private venue.
The circular warned that non-compliance would be taken seriously and could lead to administrative action, including suspension of financial assistance or recognition of the concerned association.
The directive, effective immediately, aims to ensure uniformity, transparency, and optimal utilization of government sports infrastructure, while promoting fair competition and better performance standards for athletes across J&K.
