JAMMU, Mar 16: Jammu and Kashmir Police organised “Jammu Marathon 2025” under its Civic Action Programme (CAP) at Gulshan Ground, here today. The event, titled ‘Run for Fun,’ witnessed overwhelming participation, with over 3000 athletes from across the country. It brought together people of all ages, including schoolchildren, veterans and fitness enthusiasts, making it a truly inclusive event.
The marathon featured nine categories, offering a range of distances to accommodate different levels of competition. The 21-km Half Marathon saw intense competition, with Manjit Singh from Ferozpur, Punjab, claiming the top spot in the Men’s category. The 10 km Road Race (Women, 18+) was won by Savita Paul from Uttar Pradesh, while Parveen Kumar from Chenani, Udhampur, triumphed in the Boys Under 18 category. Vibhum Panday from Sainik School, Nagrota and Ankit Kumar from Ludhiana, Punjab, secured second and third positions, respectively, in the Boys Under 18 category.
In the 10 km Junior Road Race (Girls, Under 18), Sulekha claimed the first position, followed by Mehak Nishad and Sania Choudhary. The 10 km Veterans Race (Women, 45+) saw Manminder Kour from Trikuta Nagar, Jammu, finishing first, with Tina Sahi from Jammu and Seema Kharyal from Gangyal, Jammu, taking second and third places, respectively. In the Men’s Veterans Race (45+), Joga Singh from Ludhiana, Punjab, emerged as the winner, while Ram Raj from Pathyal, Jammu and Parshotam Lal from Lakshmi Nagar, Mutti, Jammu, took second and third positions.
The 5 km Sub Junior Race (Boys, Under 14) was claimed by Mohd Fareed from Rajouri, followed by Ummar Shoukat from Nagrota, Jammu, and Rahik Manhas from Katra, Reasi. In the 4 km Sub Junior Race (Girls, Under 14), Komal from Gujjar Nagar, Jammu, secured first place, with Eleena Singh from Old Janipur, Jammu and Shabu Devi from Katra, Reasi, finishing second and third, respectively.
The event also included races for younger and older participants. The youngest female, Nanshika Rajput (5 years old), and the youngest male, Priyansh Singh Saini (4 years old), along with the oldest female, Amrit Kour (63 years old) and the oldest male, Angrez Singh (72 years old), were among the highlights of the 2 km “Run for Fun.”
The prize distribution ceremony was graced by M.K. Sinha, Additional Director General of Police, PHQ, J&K, who praised the participation and emphasized the importance of such events in promoting fitness and discouraging drug abuse. Winners across various categories received medals, certificates and cash prizes worth Rs 1, 84,000.
