JKP helped youth to channelize energy in positive way: Ansari

SRINAGAR, June 16: Minister for Youth, Services and Sports, Imran Raza Ansari said that Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP), besides its professional duties has figured quite high in the field of sports and its players have proved their mettle at national and international levels also.
He said that the sports activities of JKP have helped the youth to channelize their energy in a positive way and also served as a bridge of good will between the people and the police.
Speaking at the concluding ceremony of 5-day Inter-Battalion Sports Meet at Bakshi Stadium here this evening, Ansari stressed upon the sports lovers to avail opportunities provided by the Organization.
He said that the activities create sportsmanship among the personnel, enhancing their discipline, team spirit, besides help the organizers to identify the talented sports person.
Earlier, in his welcome address, the ADGP Armed, SM Sahai threw light on organizing the annual sports event in summer capital in which sports personnel from 28 Battalions of IRP and Armed Police participated in varied disciplines including basketball, volleyball, football, handball, tug-of-war, boxing, wrestling, weightlifting, swimming, shooting, hockey, kabbadi, marathon, shot put, hammer throw, javelin throw, discus throw, long jump and high jump. Besides, sports person from officer ranks of the different battalions participated in badminton, table tennis, lawn tennis and shooting, he added.
Sahai said that tournament was played at different venues including Bakshi Stadium, Indoor Stadium, Polo-Ground, Armed Complex Zewan, Gundun Ground Rajbagh and Amar Singh College. All the events of the tournament were played on knock out basis as per the rules laid down by All India Police Sports Control Board.
He added that IGP (IR), Sunil Kumar and his team of officers conducted the tournament in a befitting manner.
Later, Minister along with DGP, K Rajendra Kumar presented mementos and trophies to the winning teams. 15th Battalion in women and 20th Battalion in men were declared overall champions of the mega sports event.
Among others present were MLC, Khursheed Alam, ADGPs, SK Mishra, SP Vaid and VK Singh, IGPs, DG Sports, Jehangir Mir, AK Choudhary, HK Lohia, Deepak Kumar, SJM Geelani, Sunil Sharma, Yoginder Koul, MA Khan, Jagit Kumar, SA Watali, MA Ganai and JP Singh, Director SSG, SA Mujtaba, DIG, GH Bhat and Commandants of Armed and IRP battalions and other police officers.
