SRINAGAR, July 27: JKCA Leopards lifted the inaugural Inter-School U-14 Boys Cricket Tournament trophy after defeating Delhi Public School (DPS) Srinagar by 7 wickets in the grand finale held at Doon School, Srinagar.
Batting first, DPS Srinagar scored 148 runs in the allotted 25 overs. Rouhan top scored with 45 runs, while Rafid contributed 29. For JKCA Leopards, Zaid bagged 3 wickets and Hazim picked up 2.
In reply, JKCA Leopards chased the target comfortably in just 14 overs with 7 wickets in hand. Arsalan played a match-winning knock of 85 runs. Dayan took 2 wickets for DPS.
The winners and runners-up were felicitated by Brigadier Anil Gupta (Member Administration, JKCA) and Sunil Sethi (Member Legal Affairs, JKCA). Mementoes were also presented to DPS Srinagar and Doon School by former JKCA treasurers Prof Manzoor Wazir and Mir Manzoor Gazanffar. Match officials were honoured by Abdul Qayoom Bagaw, Member CAC and Coordinator of the event.
Arsalan was named Player of the Match and received his award from Showkat Ahmed Khan, Chairman, Doon School. Mir Hayan of Doon School was adjudged Best All-Rounder and awarded by Principal Kamli Sahab. Azim of DPS was declared Promising Player and awarded by Iqbal Shah, former General Secretary, JKCA. Arsalan was also named Player of the Series and was presented the award by Imtiyaz Ahmed Zargar.
Brigadier Anil Gupta announced that JKCA will make the event an annual feature to promote grassroots cricket across the UT. Meanwhile, in Jammu semifinals, Jodhamal School defeated Heritage School by 25 runs, and JKCA Tigers beat JP World School by 82 runs. Jodhamal will now face JKCA Tigers in the Jammu final. Sanam Mahajan and Keshav Gupta were named Players of the Match in their respective semifinal matches.
