JAMMU, Sept 19: Over 80 boys turned up for the Under-19 boys cricket coaching camp and selection trials for the forthcoming BCCI tournaments, being organised by Jammu wing of Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) at MA Stadium, here.
The camp was inaugurated by Romesh Mahajan, recently nominated one of signatories of JKCA accounts and member tournament committee in a well attended function here.
The camp is being held under the supervision of cricket coach Randhir Singh and Pankaj Dutt, while Ankush Abrol is the coordinator cum incharge of the camp.
Prominent among others present on the inaugural ceremony were Shamboo Nath Sharma, Tilak Singh, Sunit Sharma and Pradeep Bali.
The young cricketers, on one hand, were enthusiastic to take part in the coaching camp, while on the other hand they were uncertain as to would this camp serve their cause or not. In absence of the selectors, the entire system is in a corridor of uncertainty.
Holding coaching camp is fine, however, picking the probables is a point of concern as it has not been decided in the JKCA working committee as to who would be the selectors for the season. For that matter everything seems to be in dilemma and the only solution for picking the State teams is the election of Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association, for which the president of JKCA, Dr Farooq Abdullah has already given the nod.
Now, the only thing is as to how early the elections would be held as the cricketing season is in sight.
Organising activities with an elected team of office bearers carries weight, while holding them in the prevailing atmosphere do not set the ‘Thames on Fire’ rather seems to be an exercise in futility.
To preserve sanctity of this gentleman’s game and spirit of the players and the officials, besides helping the players not to leave in the lurch, the holding of JKCA election is the need of the hour.
