J&K wrestlers win Gold medals at World Police Games in USA

JAMMU, July 3: In a proud moment for the Union Territory and Jammu and Kashmir Police, two wrestlers from J&K-Benia Min and Ishaq Ahmed-clinched gold medals at the prestigious World Police and Fire Games 2025 held in Birmingham, Alabama, USA.
Benia Min won gold in the 95 kg category, while Ishaq Ahmed secured the top spot in the 125 kg category. Both wrestlers showcased exceptional skill and determination, defeating strong opponents from the USA in the finals, bringing international glory to J&K.
The achievement has been widely celebrated. Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh, in a post on X, expressed immense pride over Benia Min’s victory, especially highlighting his roots from the remote village of Khaned, Basantgarh, District Udhampur. “His triumph on the global stage is a testament to the surge of youth aspiration in every corner of India,” he wrote.
Shiv Kumar Sharma, President of J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association, lauded both wrestlers for their skill, teamwork, and commitment throughout the tournament. The Wrestling Association of J&K, led by President Vasudev Sharma, also extended its congratulations, calling the wins a “historic moment” for the UT.
SSP Dushyant Sharma, former President of the Wrestling Federation of India, praised the athletes and said their success will inspire more youth in J&K to pursue wrestling as a career and help raise the sport’s profile in the region.
