SRINAGAR, Feb 17: The J&K UT Open Chess Championship 2026, held from February 13–15, concluded today, with a total cash prize of Rs 1, 00,000 distributed among the winners.
The top six overall performers were Sumit Grover (6.5 points), Sahil Rashid (6), Khalid Amin (5.5), Mohammad Aayan Adil Khan (5.5), Muhammad Hamzah Khan (5.5) and Anurag Singh (5.5). Special awards recognized emerging talent, including Best Veteran Dr Akthar Ajaz, Best Female Zirwa Tariq Sheikh (U-11), Best Disabled Player Rajinder Singh and youngest participants Ayzal Noor and Zoran Tariq Sheikh.
The closing ceremony was graced by Anwar-ul-Haq Khan (DySP), Farhana Farooq (DySP), Sheikh Tariq, Zahid Hussain Malik and Zahoor Ahmad (JE), who lauded the organizers and encouraged young talents to excel in chess.
