JAMMU, Jan 28: Education Minister Sakina Itoo inaugurated the J&K UT Open Chess Championship at IDPS School, Sunjwan, Jammu. The event was also attended by Secretary Sports Council J&K Nuzhat Gul and Director School Education Dr Naseem Javed Choudhary as special guests. Organized by the All J&K Chess Association in collaboration with IDPS School, the championship features 160 players across various categories competing for a total cash prize of Rs 1 lakh along with trophies.
Minister Itoo appreciated the efforts of the association and IDPS School in providing a platform to nurture young chess talent in J&K. The school management, including Arunima Choudhary (Chairperson, IDPS Juniors), Suminder Singh (Managing Director, Operations), Swarn Choudhary (Managing Director, Finance), Principal Randeep Wazir and Madu Abrol were present on the occasion.
The championship is conducted under the supervision of Chief Arbiter Bindu Pathania, following a seven-round Swiss classical format. Key organizers include, Atul Kumar Gupta (Chairman, Planning & Development Commission, AICF), Baldev Raj, and SP Sharma.
