J&K UT Handball C’ship begins in Jammu

JAMMU, Jan 7: The 3-day J&K UT Handball Championship began today here at Shastri Nagar Play Field for senior men and women sections. The Championship is being organized by J&K Handball Association, in collaboration with J&K Sports Council. The Championship will be organized on League –Cum – Knock out basis.
Dr Ajay Sharma, SP Jammu South, was the chief guest in the opening ceremony, while Mohit Sharma, Field Publicity Officer Jammu, Department of Information, was the guest of honour. In his address, the chief guest stressed upon the players to concentrate on honing their skills and maintain high physical standards to achieve big.
About 300 players from different districts of the UT are participating in the tournament. Earlier, Ashwani Kumar Raina, president JKHA, welcomed the guests, players and officials.
The opening match in the men’s section was played between District Poonch and District Udhampur in which District Udhampur won by 23-20 goals.
The 2nd match in the women section was played between District Baramulla and District Kupwara in which Baramulla defeated Kupwara by 8– 2 goals.
Among others present on the occasion were Rajesh Chandan (general secretary JKHA), Rajesh Kapoor (vice president), Sanjeev Jamwal (treasurer), and Suresh Khajuria & Sajjad Ahmed (executive members).
