SRINAGAR, Dec 15: Jammu & Kashmir will host the 10th National SnowShoe Championship 2026 at Sonamarg and Gulmarg, marking a significant boost to winter sports and adventure tourism in the region.
As per handout issued the announcement was made during a meeting chaired by Director Tourism Kashmir, Syed Qamar Sajad, with the J&K SnowShoe Association delegation led by President Tariq Ghani, along with General Secretary Dr. Altaf ur Rehman and Senior Member Reyaz Wani. Other officials present included Joint Director Tourism Waseem Raja, GM J&K Cable Car Corporation Reyaz Malik, Assistant Directors Tahir Wani and Mudasir Tak, and winter sports expert Rauf Tramboo.
The association highlighted SnowShoe running’s potential to revive winter tourism due to its low-cost, minimal infrastructure requirements. Director Sajad directed officials to begin preparations and develop a comprehensive winter sports calendar, including events at Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Dodapathri, Yousmarg, and lesser-known areas. The initiative aims to promote adventure sports, support athletes, and enhance local tourism opportunities across Kashmir.
