JAMMU, June 8: The J&K Strength Lifting Association conducted selection trials at BDJ Gym, here today to finalize the squad for the 3rd North India Strength Lifting Championship, scheduled from June 13 to 15 at Palampur, Himachal Pradesh.
More than 50 athletes from across the Union Territory participated, showcasing exceptional strength and dedication. After intense competition, 15 athletes were shortlisted across Junior and Senior categories to represent J&K in the prestigious event.
One of the most promising performances came from Meenu, a talented junior lifter trained by reputed coach Narinder Singh Manhas. Her explosive lifting and consistent form raised hopes for a new national record, earning admiration from selectors and spectators alike.
Coach Narinder Singh Manhas, known for grooming top talent, has previously mentored national medalists like Vijay Singh Chib, Anshuman, Adil, Mohinder Kumar and Shashipal, playing a vital role in promoting Strength Lifting in the region.
The trials were overseen by a distinguished panel including Ashok Singh (Senior Vice President, Indian Strength Lifting Federation), Iqbal Singh (Vice President, J&K Association), Raman Sharma (General Secretary), and Rakesh Kumar (International Player and Team Coach), ensuring a transparent and merit-based selection process. The J&K team now sets its sights on a strong showing at Palampur, with high expectations riding on rising stars like Meenu.
