JAMMU, June 5: Jammu & Kashmir has marked a historic sporting milestone by clinching the Overall 2nd Runner-Up Trophy at the 17th National Kalarippayattu Championship held in Kerala.
The Union Territory’s athletes showcased stellar performances, with Jagriti Sangotra winning Gold in the Kaipporu (Girls 60–75 kg) category. Her commanding display of skill and agility stood out among the top martial artists in the country. Nitin Kumar added to the accolades by securing a Silver Medal in the Chuvadukal event, demonstrating strength and precision under pressure.
This performance reflects the growing martial arts culture in J&K. Danish Sharma, General Secretary of the Kalarippayattu Association of J&K, expressed pride in the achievement, saying, “Our athletes have proven their potential on the national stage. With consistent support, we aim to make J&K a hub for Kalarippayattu in India.” The Association extended heartfelt congratulations to the medallists, their coaches and support staff for their dedication.
